"Gurrl," Lori's mother whispered, "you'd better start getting to know some of these people. You should make some friends."
Lori looked across the office at Lloyd's dorky glasses (he's still wearing
the same ones) and clothes and said, "Whatever."
2001 UPDATE Lloyd has new glasses!!!!! A wedding gift to Lori.
Eventually, giving up on Lori and Lloyd, their mothers started talking to
each other and were able to introduce the pair of reluctant youngsters, who,
antsy to get outta there, immediately went back to ignoring each other.
Nonetheless, they did have some classes together and ever so slowly became
friends, of sorts. They would see each other back in Chicago at holidays and
stuff. Sometime in 1990, Lori and Lloyd started dating each other. The
romantic among you may see their wedding as the 10th anniversary of their
first date. The realistic among you will simply realize that even the
inconceivable can happen and has.
So, that leads to the next question:
Who proposed to whom and how did it come about?
Let Lori tell it:
"Lloyd visited me in Maine for my birthday last September. He didn't give me
my present when he arrived, so I kept bothering him. He still wouldn't give it to me and so I continued to pester him. I couldn't understand why he didn't just give it
to me. ( I had asked for a deluxe Scrabble game), so I decided that he was
either too cheap to buy it or scared that I would beat him again. I always
kick his butt."
Ooops, Lloyd has something to say:
"She doesn't."
Of course, Lloyds's eloquence doesn't deter Lori:
"Anyway, I broke him down and he said that he wanted to give me a present
that would last the rest of my life. My first thought was 'Cool, a Super
Deluxe Scrabble game. Wow!'. Instead, he asked me to marry him. I had to buy
my own Scrabble game."
So, they're getting married, but what happened to the Scrabble?
We play the computer one separately to see who can get the highest score. We
both cheat when we do it that way, though neither of us will admit it to the
other.
First Impressions:
Lori: He usta wear these yellow sweatpants all the time. I pretty much wore
all black all the time and was a loner. Lloyd was a party guy, everyone knew
him and all the gurls liked him. I should've known something was up. I actually told him to take me home on our first date. He'd picked me up and took me to his house to get his roommate; it was gonna be a double date. I waited in the living room for about 2 hours while he and Tony played around upstairs. I was mad, but I waited to see how long it took to get me even madder. (I also didn't know how to get home on the bus from there.) So, after about 2 hours alone (who the hell knows what they were doing), he and Tony came downstairs and expressed surprise at seeing me there. Anyway, we had to pick up Tony's date from school. We waited while she got ready. Boy, I was really upset! I'd been Lloyd's prisoner for hours! Finally we left for the movie, but half way to the show I told him to
take me home. Of course, he had no clue why, but he took me home and found
another date. Why did I bother? I'm stupid.I guess.
First Impressions
Lloyd: She was alright.
Everything else kinda gets mushed up. As you might imagine after a decade. We've already gotten past the seven year itch. We've had lots of fights, no really
significant events, some great roadtrips, and several break-ups that ended nowhere. So of course, now we're getting married. They say the first 10 years are the hardest.
Lloyd: Huh?
